Denon DJ Asian All Star Championship 2007 On Thursday the 17th of May the Denon DJ Asian All Star Championship was held for 2007. The competition consisted of finalists from all corners of Asia Pacific competing for the title of Asian All Star Champion and the fantastic new Denon DN-HD2500 Hard Drive Audio Player as the first prize.
Held at Santika, a popular nightspot in Bangkok, the night began with a showcase on the DN-HD2500 by one of Thailand's best DJ's, DJ SSD. He ran the DN-HD2500 thru its paces with a mix of breakbeats and house, blending in scratching with advanced use of the built-in effects like echo loop and filter. It was impressive to see that his whole music collection was being played back from a USB Stick and Portable MP3 player connected directly to the DN-HD2500 thru a USB hub. Gone are the days off lugging around crates of vinyl and CD wallets!
After introductions by the lovely host from MTV the competition was ready to kick off. Two consoles had been setup, each consisting of two DN-S3500 CD Players and a DN-X1500S 4 Channel Mixer as the standard platform for competing. Each DJ set was 15-20 minutes long and could consist of any style of music.
First up, representing Singapore was DJ Razaq. played a great set of breaks and popular bootlegs. He impressed earlier with some tight scratching and good use of effects ranging from the filters to the echo loop. Definitely an experienced DJ using Denon DJ equipment, DJ Razaq had set the standard high as the first entrant for the competition.
DJ Yusuf from India was up next. DJ Yusuf played a very nice blend of musical styles ranging from house to hip hop and pop all infused with tribal style rhythms. He made good use of the hotstarts and sampling features on the DN-S3500 although his scratching was not as advanced as DJ Razaq beforehand. DJ Yusuf had an interesting finish, pulling out a small keyboard and playing the main riff from his last song fading out to only his piano sound from his keyboard. Top marks for originality!
Next on stage was G-Smooth from Australia. With a long introduction listing credentials such as ITF Scratching Champion there were a lot of expectations from the audience. And he didn't disappoint! G-Smooth began with an impressive display of scratching and transforming pushing the limits of the DN-S3500 Active Platter and DN-X1500S Flex Fader. G-Smooth was clearly a battle DJ challenging all his opponents with some very good use of gangster movie samples and a confident stage performance. Great use of the hot starts for instant drumming and impressive beat juggling placed G-Smooth as top contender for the competition.
The final contestant was local favourite DJ Soundheaven. DJ Soundheaven is a popular Thai DJ playing in all the best clubs in Thailand. His style was completely different from what was just heard and he thumped out some banging house and trance anthems making good use of the effects and looping in breakdowns and build-ups. DJ Soundheaven finished off his set making good use of the Echo1 effect on the DN-X1500S by decreasing the echo time to an ear-piercing tone. Definitely a favourite with the crowd!
After a brief break with a performance from DJ SSD the results were ready to be announced. First to be announced was the runner up, DJ Razaq. DJ Razaq was quite surprised but it was a well deserved placing. And now the winner - as many in the audience expected the winner of the Denon DJ Asian All Star Championship for 2007 is G-Smooth. Well done!
And congratulations must also go to Denon DJ Singapore and Mahajak Development Thailand for organising a very successful event.

On a good note..... I came in 2nd place in the Asia Pacific All Stars Denon DJ Competition... lost to DJ G-Smooth (ITF Champion from Australia)....the write-up and pics coming soon.
To the Thai DJs who lost and demanded that I be disqualified, too bad. Next time don't put me in the competition... even if it was last minute, even when you think I'm unprepared. Singapore DJs are always prepared with a lil' sumthin' sumthin'....... (tracklist coming soon)
Next up..... Denon DJ World Showdown in Japan - Nov 2007. I'm gonna play Para-Para!!

This is what music is all about, what being a musician all about, and reasons of why you doing it. Classic!
IN THE STONE - Earth Wind & Fire
I found that love, provides
The key-unlocks, the heart and souls, of you and me-
Love will love, to sing your song,
Love is written in the stone
Every man, I meet is walking time-
Free to wander, past his conscious mind,
Love will come, and take you home-
Love is written, in the stone
Do you believe, my friend, in what you claim, people of the world,
All doubt the same-bringing questions
Of their own-truth is written,
In the stone
In the stone, you'll find the meaning
Why you're not standing tall
In the stone
The light is shining, forever touching all-
Life experience a passing day
Time will witness, what the ole
Folks say-getting stronger every day
-Strenght is written in the stone-
Deep inside, our hearts for us
To keep-lies a spark of light that
Never sleeps
The greatest, you've ever known-
Yea is written-
In the stone
In the stone, you'll find the meaning
Why you're not standing tall
In the stone
The light is shining, forever touching all-
Never, never my darling, never you'll
Be alone-Forever, ever my darling
True love is written in the stone-

Dj Ollie Des in O Bar
Had a walkabout last night with fellow managers from the group. Decided to see how buzzing Cannery is.... with all the 'hit-me-up' promos. Here's my personal view of the whole situation....
1. Traffic in Clarke Quay is awesome. People everywhere, looking good, doesn't matter if they're partying or just having dinner with friends... Everyone seem to be club-hopping. With that kind of traffic, any club with the most hype would definitely get the crowd.
2. We were hanging-out with some people at Fashion Bar for a drink, then to Clinic. Fashion Bar, lots of 'show-offs'..... champagne, cock's-tail, and bottle drinkers. 'Show-offs' are actually good for a club...... this is a place for locals who want to be segregated from the mainstream society, expats who hopes to get lucky, and models waiting for somebody to offer them drinks.
3. Music was ok, but I thought it was funny for a bar of that stature to play Indie, Alternative, and out of nowhere........ White Horse at 10.30pm...??? Maybe its what defined as 'bar music'.... I don't know... they said they are MoS, they have better music knowledge than anybody in Timbuktu.
4. When to Clinic, had a few drinks with the outlets manager... (who was kind enough to show us around). Got a lil' intimidated by the music..... Clinic plays Retro & Mambo Jumbo...??????!!!! damn!!! the same DJ that played in Mdm Wong. I closed my eyes and felt like I was in the old Mohd Sultan Rd. Can't blame the DJ though..... they have to play what management wants and they are desperate to have the crowd in. ( in the background, Bon Jovi was going IT'S MY LIFE...!!)
5. Met with DJ Godwin P. the bugger slimmed down so much and look like another friend from Dunlop St. Had a small chat about things.... then he asked, Yukun with you? Full-time? What you all actually playing?......
6. Walked past the other Cannery outlets but there were not much else to see. MoS was erm..... so so......?
Conclusion:
a. the only thing nice at Clinic were the 2 chandeliers.
b. Fashion Bar was alright..... I might come back, provided they don't play White Horse, and the music doesn't stop abruptly all the time.
c. Service was suprisingly good at both outlets.... or is it coz they know who we were?
d. The crowd at Clinic wasn't really beautiful. The quality of girls wasn't that great. They weren't really pack at midnight......
e. What happen to the music policy at The Cannery....?? claim to have the best pool of DJs on the island, but have to relent to mainstream? This proves one thing...... SINGAPORE DOESN'T HAVE A DANCE MUSIC SCENE, and PARTY-GOERS ARE STILL STUCK IN 1989.
f. For the next 1 year, St James Powerhouse will have the bigger pie, PERIOD. Go Canto!!
Next, we're getting ready for another funky weekend at eM Studio........... Funky House at its best...... with yours truly and partner-in-crime (literally) YUKUN.

Dear Aunt Aggie,
Can Sagittarius men love.....?
Doubtful
*************************************************************************************
Dear Doubtful,
I suspect your Sagittarius man can love, but please understand - he must remain in motion. If you love a Sagittarius, you've chosen to love a wild horse. If you attempt to corral a wild horse, one day you'll wake up to find they've jumped the fence.
A wild horse is a wild horse. When it opts to run free, it doesn't mean to injure the person who built the corral. It's just the only way for the animal to feel vitally alive.
So if you want to love Sagittarius, you must leave the door open at all times. This is just the way it is. To restrict a Sadge is akin to preventing a Virgo from reading a book, or a Pisces from dreaming. It's unthinkable. Imagine a chained wild horse. What's uglier than that?
So yes, of course a Sadge can give and receive love - but not if it means they're tied down. If you love him, these are your choices:
- Love him as he passes through.
- Set up home with him, but leave the door open, understanding he's going roam from time to time - and that does not mean he will cheat.
- Travel together.
My sister has her Moon and Jupiter Moon conjunct in Sagittarius. Her advice regarding Sadge men? "Ride 'em while you can!"

I'm bored shit!!. It's a public holiday.... got nothing to do, nowhere to go, nobody to talk to, nothing to eat. Might as well go to work and try finish some video stuff. Remembered my working days at Ministry of Sound Bangkok 3 years ago.... lived alone in an apartment for 4 months. Yet I'm not this bored.
Still trying to adjust life as a single again......
For whatever comments you're gonna give, remember this ........
DON'T BLAME THE PLAYER, BLAME THE GAME!
Hercules is hailed as a Greek God. To the female of the species, Greek Gods have very well-toned body, strong,.... in short - hunks of hunks! To men, Greek Gods are just myth that they read the comics of Clash of the Titans..... But to my understanding (my own understanding) Greek Gods are Gods for the people from Greece. duh!
Hercules was supposedly to be the 'strenght icon' for men. In fact, he's the men's icon. Symbol of all men. Unfortunately, the statue above showed the real Hercules in the eyes of the ancient Europeans. The statue showed Hercules with his toy boy. Why would people wanna immortalize their God, hero, icon, bla, bla, bla.... in such a way.... with his toy boy.
Hercules may not be the perfect gentlemen, but he COULD be what men really are....?
Maybe hercules is really gay..... no wonder the sunday boys only work their upper torso.... just like the statues......
Why do people hail Hercules as a God if he's Gay....?
Maybe the artist was Gay... his interpretation of 'happy' is Hercules with a toy boy.
But what's worst is that they should at least shave the toy boy's beard..... he looks uninviting!! That's not even a toy boy..... more like a 'short toy uncle'!
I'm looking for an example of a Geek God.... yes Geek.
