DE LA SOUL is the Bomb........!!!!

The showcase they had in Velvet Underground last night was the bomb!! For once, real hip hop took centre stage and it was dope!!..... hmmmmmm. I'm beginning to sound like a wannabe...... Unfortunately, there were some people who didn't know what was going on or who De La Soul was. They just followed what the rest of the crowd did. hah! But it was all gooood.......... and '3 was still the Magic Number'.

Many a times people have commented that this blog is full of crap. Blog belongs to a DJ but nothing about music or related to DJ-ing. Sorry to have disappoint those of you who are always expecting something from the norm. I'm not from the norm. This is me..... and everything that evolves around me...... Its not 'ME, MYSELF AND I' ..... but 'Me, Myself and the World Around Me'....... This is Life. In fact, it has everything about music....... My perception is...... MUSIC IS LIFE. So, since its about life around me.... it also music around me (depends how you perceive each situation).

Anyway, here's a music-related video of God's gift to life........ see if you dig this.

Her name is Esperanza, jazz vocalist/bassist, from Portland Oregon. We call this SICK TO THE BONE!!..... Hailed by musicians, Soulful DJs, sound engineers, album producers,.... from all over the world as 'THE ONE'.

After 25 years on this earth, today I found something..... very very interesting. The following is a portion taken from the article.... after asking some friends whom are of Middle Eastern/Arabic descendants.... they confirmed that its TRUE!!!

PROHIBITED MUSLIM NAMES.......

Question: Are there any Muslim names which it is forbidden to use? If so, what are they?

Answer:

Yes, there are Muslim names which we are forbidden to use, examples of which are as follows:

It is forbidden to use any name which belongs only to Allaah, such as al-Khaaliq (the Creator) and al-Quddoos (the Most Holy), or names which do not befit any except Allaah, such as Malik al-Mulook (King of Kings). This is the consensus of the fuqaha’.

Ibn al-Qayyim said that names which belong only to Allaah include: al-Ahad (the One), al-Samad (the Eternal), al-Khaaliq (the Creator), al-Razzaaq (the Provider), al-Jabbaar (the Compeller), al-Mutakabbir (the Majestic), al-Awwal (the First), al-Aakhir (the Last), al-Baatin (the Hidden) and ‘Allaam al-Ghuyoob (the Knower of the Unseen). (Tuhfat al-Mawdood, p. 98)

Oh no!! I'm doomed....!! Cursed....!! Someone take me............. home.

No wonder I'm such a bad, bad person...... bad boy!!! Someone........ please take me home and spank me.... please.

No boys please........ ;)

However....... if you take the 'Q' out of RAZAQ, you'll get RAZA...... which in some cases mean handsome, cool, well-liked, and eye-candy......... as you may beg to differ, I'll accept what's already given. Even the spanking....... thank you!! ;)

Today was the first working Monday of 2008. Being such an 'auspicious' day, my CEO decide to treat us lunch at a new place called RECESS , in a building called Old School, up in Mount Sophia Road. Actually, its the old premises of St. Margaret's, SHATEC and some defunct school from the 80s. Sad to say, lunch wasn't great as the place called RECESS sucks with a capital S (front and back)! The service staff got all our orders wrong, food came late and wrong and they had to spill 2 glasses of honey iced tea on my colleague's back. No apologies...... just empathy from the owner....duh?!

However, something else caught my attention. Saw an old structure which stood among the other 'new-age' buildings. Seems like a dream from the past which only existed in Never Never Land............ how appropriate..... it's a kindergarten.

Apart from that, at 1pm, in the hot sun......... a truck arrived with its load...... happily enjoying the ride...... in DreamLand.

Lastly, here's an example of how women drivers park their cars..... especially, if its a big BMW. Checkout where the parking lines are..... For those in-the-know, look at the license plate carefully......... thats right. That's the .............. of ...................

Wow.... what a start to the new year. Didn't make any resolution but I've done something that I haven't do for many years.

Last night being a boring Sunday (as usual), I took my ass of the bed and went JOGGING!!! yeah.... hear me right, I went JOGGING!!

Its been awhile since I did some sweating (in every ways)..... and it came back to me as how wonderful it feels. The satisfaction of breaking a sweat and how healthy you suddenly feel. I used to be so freakin' fit during my days in the National Sepak Takraw Team and Premier League Soccer. Forgot how it felt and the joy of feeling fit. Suddenly the trees smell soooooo fresh, and the moon looks sooooooo bright. The veins doesn't feel lazy at all and I think the blood cells are jumping for joy.

Some wise dude (or dudette) used to say "Guys think about sex every 3 seconds"..... well, I think you're wrong, dude (or dudette). Jogging put your mind in a different zone altogether. If you're still thinking about sex while jogging..... chances are, you're a pervert. Everything feels so positive and that's life at its best.

Yeah..... I'm so proud of myself for fighting off the lazy bone, and broke some sweat. I'm proud that I manage to jog for the whole................. 8 minutes.............. around my block.

Yeah..... I did 2 laps, around my block in 8-freakin'-minutes..... Yeah!!!!!! ;)

Tmw....... gonna go enrol at Planet Fitness! Time for a change. Since I have time to burn from 6pm - 9pm everyday, might as well go burn some fat, calories and trim those love-handles...... hah!!

Btw, I was told that the women at Planet Fitness GWC are mostly older, stable, high-income-earners and single. Just like me.... I'm a SUDA - Single, Unattached & Desperately Available......

Wayne Brady is awesome....!!
For the past few days, I've been hearing about people around me trying to start fulfilling their new year resolution. Some want to quit smoking, drink less alcohol, start jogging, lose weight, bla, bla, bla......... not sure who will make it to have the will power to fulfill their resolution. Being in the thick of 'action', I've got to share my new year resolution also......

This year..... I'm gonna try and gain 300 pounds..... so that I'm eligible for the reality tv show...... THE BIGGEST LOSER!!!!

No....... I'm not going after the prize money. I just want Jilian Micheals to train me....... hah!!

Jillian Micheals - trainer

like they say...."motivation comes from within......." - total Hotness.

******************************************************************

Some say I'm already a LOSER for watching such crappy tv show. Well........ at least I don't rush home to watch Deal or No Deal. And, what's wrong with watching ELLEN and Martha Stewart. At least there's something to learn...... What do you learn from watching Deal or No Deal.....?? I guess so......NOTHING!! And.... which part of it is 'entertaining'? The contestants, the girls, the host, the banker......? I guess so....... you're not sure.

At last its over.....! All the mess, the crazyness of the year-end, the excitement, the kan-chiong-ness, and stupidity of irritants. However, being a new year, new irritants, new excitement, new stress and new assholes, will pop-up from nowhere. Just like the post-X'mas sales, you know that its coming but will not know what to expect this time.

The NYE party was nothing much to brag about. The outlet was infested with kids from the UWC Alumni. Underaged drinking, gatecrashers, and stupid-white-chicks-with-itchy-fingers keep touching the vinyls. There are other things to touch, yet the keep touching the vinyls...... thwarts!! Why does all these kids always think they know better than you......

The Trance party at the Studio was as expected...... massive!! Nuff said.....

However, the after-party back in my hotel room was a better deal. Close friends, buddies and staff...... getting wasted on alcohol and chicken wings and french fries. and yeah...... drunk chicks ROCKS!!!! its best not to have the pictures posted so as to protect the identities of innocent lives........ except for this one.

I know some of you might say that this won't happen to you. The things is, you wouldn't know until it happen. In fact, I'm sure that you don't realise that you're still drunk while reading this blog....... you sure you're not drunk...??? look at the picture below and tell that to yourself!!! hah!!

Its ok... don't be ashamed for getting drunk. admit it...... its fine.

And btw, if you don't like hangovers, ........ stay drunk.

This year I learn something about women. Actually, most part of this year was spent researching about what women actually mean when they speak. I've been single for the whole of 2007, and its because of trying to understand women... the fact is.... men will never understand women.(that's the beauty of life) Unless, we can hear what they are thinking........

SERIOUSLY..... what's the fuss??.... yeah, what's the fuss with the new year? 2008 is coming, so?? what's with the fuss about the parties and stuff....?? Some people gonna make more money, some gonna lose, some gonna get laid, some gonna go home alone, some gonna get drunk and sleep on the road, some gonna get hurt..... the numbers on the calender will change, the dates will change, but seriously....... what else?? What's the fuss...??

Will the world change to a better peaceful place? Will my pay change for the better? Will income tax rate change lower? Will MTV promote House music? Will Singapore qualify for the World Cup? Will the leopard lose its spots? Will the pigs learn to fly? Will Maggie Q actually gonna call me? Will any of these change..??!! So..... what's the fuss..??!

The way I see it is.... there'll be more problems during the NYE..... people gonna get drunk and irritate the hell out of me, taxi all disappear into the night, hotel rooms cost like a month's rent, phone network gonna get jammed, streets gonna be trashed out, toilets will be extremely filthy, crazy people spraying confetti all over the place. Seriously... what's the fuss?

Still..... my wish for a quiet NYE with love ones hasn't been granted. To sit quietly in the bathtub/pool, sipping hot chocolate, watching the stars, at midnight, on new year's eve. And sleep thru new year's day, excusing myself from all the hype and fuss of welcoming the new year. Just another reason to get drunk, spend money, and irritate the hell out of me..... Seriously, what's the fuss?

Gimme a good reason to party, to make a big deal out of it, to be excited or even, to understand the fuss......

Not expecting anyone to understand this..... but if you do, you're Mac compatible.

Its funny when you read the Mac vs PC forums. People battling it out on who has the best OS. It gets pretty rough and uncontrollable. The fact is that, those people are actually losers..... it doesn't matter who has the best OS as long as you're comfortable with whatever you're using. As much as I love my Mac (soon gonna be "I love my Macs"....), PC is still ok, so is Linux OS. The only time when you have to start worshipping the OS is when....... your OS get laid and you don't....!!! hah!!

The former PM of Pakistan and contender for the next Pakistani
election was murdered few hours ago. Once again, the peace effort
for the country has been compromised. I'm not anyone who is interested
about politics, but this is something not good for world peace, especially
when its coming into 2008. My condolences to the people of Pakistan.
Unconfirmed reports says that she was murdered because of being
pro-American. They don't want the next PM to be pro-American.
My bet is...... the same people who murdered her has been listening to
hip-hop....... American music. That's why they resort to violence!!
KEPALA BUTO!!

The state of our local Busking Talents.......

Here are some thought for the local governing bodies who manages all the buskers or providing license for busking (yea.... we need license to busk here in Singapore)

For the past 3 years or so, we've seen more buskers along Orchard Road. In fact, we have Buskers Festival annually. In other countries, buskers always showcase unusual talents or just plain roadside entertainment. Mostly, they are normal people who just prefer earning money by doing what they think is best for them.

Here in Singapore, is a totally different story. Busking seems to come from disabled people. Not much talent, but they are just banking of passer-by's empathy. I think that its wrong and it doesn't compliment the true meaning of street busking. Thus, giving the wrong impression to the common public. I also think that its unfair to put a disabled person at a traffic junction, playing the trumpet or harmonica which is totally out of tune.

This uncle was playing a tune from the famed Wong Fei Hong movie with his harmonica. Connected to a guitar amplifier, the sound was screeching louder then the traffic along Orchard Road. He was the main traffic problem in front of Takashimaya's traffic light. Someone should help him get a proper spot, please.

This busker stationed himself in front of Paragon traffic light. Last night, he was playing AULD LANG SYNE every time we walk pass him. It was a pity coz he was struggling with the tune and there where some kids laughing at him. I don't think that was busking.... thats begging!!! People were putting down coins cause the feel pitiful of the disable guy. They are already suffering, why do they need to suffer more by sitting in the middle of Orchard Road waiting for other people to share their sorrow......?? just my thought......

This here is my favourite busker........ this guy's got talent. never fail to amaze me with his style, feel and taste of music. Once, I walk passed he was doing a George Benson solo with music samples from Chris Standring...... damn!! How I wish this guy, some day, could jam with the Tektile boys...... no scripts, no sheets, no scores...... just let the tabs flow..

Last year I wrote to the MDA requesting for a license to busk. We actually wanted to play in front of Paragon with the Tektile Movement, 'live' NuJazz, with the full set-up along Orchard Road... sponsors are all ready to go. It was suppose to be a collaboration with the Breast Cancer Society. Any donations and proceeds will go the organisation.

The request was turned down because they say we are professional musicians. Isn't buskers are professionals also......?? The only difference is that... they do gigs with Converse shoes and Giordano jeans, we do gigs with Gucci shoes and Ed Hardy jeans....... bluek!

Bloody Hell........! For 2 days I got stuck in traffic en-route to work...... It would be normal if I get stuck on the CTE due to peak hours, unfortunately, this is caused by THE ROBINSON'S SALE!! Imagine the congestion starts way before the kampong Java tunnel, and it goes thru all the way to Centrepoint carpark. I don't quite understand why the drivers insist on parking in Centrepoint when they know its gonna be full, traffic is hell and they can actually use the time getting stuck in traffic to park a lil' further, like at Emerald Hill, Cairnhill or even at Killiney. All these places are like 2 mins walking distance from Centrepoint!

Truthfully, I think Robinson has the best sale in town. They are genuine and you really get a good deal out of it. Knowing that, its actually funny to see aunties rushing into the store the moment the raise the shutters. Worst, few years back, there was an incident when 2 ladies tried to wrestle each other for a quilt (it was last peice).

Talking about shopping, just realise I need new clothes and pants and jeans and shoes and....... not sure if I lost weight but all the pants seems lose, t-shirts getting small, shoes getting dirrty (i don't wash shoes, when its dirty, buy new one).....

Last night tried to get into GUCCI.... long queue. I think I should stop buying GUCCI stuff..... getting very common, mainstream, and BENG...... better use the money to get MacPro!! hah!

Alritey........ someone need to enlighten me with something here.......

What the freakin' deal with people so excited with the X'mas countdown..... its great to see people from all walks of life and race, coming together and do the countdown. But what's the significance of it.......?? Countdown to X'mas..??!! 3, 2, 1, MERRY X'MAS.....!!!!! and play X'mas song?? Rudolf the Red-Nose Reindeer?? Dreaming of a White X'mas...??!! We're in Singappore... where got White X'mas??!!

Next time I do Deepavali countdown, then play Muneru-Valiba..... see you all happy or not!!

Then, after the countdown and all, you see people hugging each other, going around trying to pass the body sweat/odour to some stranger. I thought these things are only for the New Year?? I don't understand why some people are so kan-chiong to keep asking me "WHO'S DOING COUNTDOWN??"....... whoever la. Whats the big deal??!

As far as I remember, isn't X'mas is a religious thing? Celebrating the birth of Christ or something.....?? How come people celebrate it with alcohol, popping champagne, getting drunk..... and I mean pissed drunk, and irritate the hell out of me. The unlucky ones may ended up in brawls and fights, which could get fatal.

And what's the deal with people spraying the confetti balloons on other people along Orchard Road??!! Streets jammed, filled with rubbish, and kids making noise blowing horns for no reason.

Don't get me wrong. I've got nothing against X'mas. But I think people forgot the purpose of this day. The reason to rejoice and ponder has lost its meaning. Lucky enough, we don't need to do Deepavali countdown, Hari Raya countdown and Vesak day countdown. I was told some places did the Chinese New Year countdown!!!! Goodness!!

I am really not looking forward to the NYE party...... There's something that I haven't do for the past 15years.... a quite NYE with love ones..... its a job hazard. I'm beginning to hate this.

The following are some quotes that I remembered during my Pre-U days...... funny how it relates to some people ........ or maybe its just ....... hmmmmm....

If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader. (It doesn't apply when you ask others to do more, but you do nothing)- John Quincy Adams

The key to successful leadership today is influence, not authority. - Kenneth Blanchard

Whoever is providing leadership needs to be as fresh and thoughtful and reflective as possible to make the very best fight. - Faye Wattleton

You do not lead by hitting people over the head - that's assault, not leadership. - Dwight Eisenhower

The manager asks how and when; the leader asks what and why (especially when the leader is from Joo Chiat). - Warren Bennis

Men in authority will always think that criticism of their policies is dangerous. They will always equate their policies with patriotism, and find criticism subversive. - Henry Steele

Anyone who conducts an argument by appealing to authority is not using his intelligence; he is just using his memory. - Leonardo da Vinci
