THE MAGIC MAID

This is a kind of posting that you'll get when hangin'-out with a bunch of 'gerfwens' and 'bofwens'..... over a pot of Passion Fruit BOH Tea, packet of tomato-Twisties, fried-wanton and a packet of cigarettes. Some may feel like sharing similar stories, while others may just learn something. The following story was NOT taken from Incredible Tales, but it could be part of the next series.

****************************************

For the past 5 years, my aunt and her family in Yew Tee have had 3 maids. The first one lasted 2 years, second one 6 mths and the last one is still with the family till this day. All their maids were Indonesians. This is a story about the second maid. She was called Susi. (Any coincidence or resemblance is purely accidental. But then again...... who gives a shit!!)

When Susi first arrived to my aunt's family, she was a quiet person. The first few days was normal for a new maid. She always looked down when talking to my aunt and uncle, and never answered back. All was proper and they family was quite well taken care.

After about a month with the family, Susi was very much accustomed to the surrounding and she became part of the family. It is quite normal for a Malay family to treat their maids like a family, and not like a 'slave'. Susi was allowed to watch TV with the family, communicate with other members of our relatives and eat with the family. Most times, she would hangout with my aunt in the kitchen and sometimes they would go out shopping together. Many months past and nobody suspect anything.

After about 5 mths, my aunt did a lil' family gathering where all the relatives would come by and spent the whole day at her house. This was my first time at her house after a year. I got to her place at about 2pm that day. At the void deck, I met an uncle who also haven't been there for the past year. We went up together to the house which was on the 2nd floor. When we got to the house, before entering, I had goosebumps all over. Didn't took notice and went in. After my 3rd step in the house, I immediately turned and walked out. Didn't realise why I did that but it seems automatic. Stayed outside the door and lighted a cigi. Minutes later, the uncle who came with me, walked out of the house and said that something's wrong in the house. He said, the maid looks 'different'. Unfortunately, he didn't elaborate how different was 'different'.

nothing different wat...??!

The next day, my Mom was talking about the gathering at my aunt's house. She said, the maid acts like the house belongs to her. She sits watching TV while the rest were in the kitchen, she talks with a demanding tone, and she walks into my aunts bedroom like she sleeps in there. I also told her what my uncle told me. We soon realised something was amiss in that house.

A few days later, after some investigation (which I didn't know about), they had a meeting in my house. The maid was present. This time, she stood quietly at one corner (relak one corner - it's a Malay thing). Another uncle came along and asked her what she kept in her purse. (Prior to these, according to Mom, they had asked other people about such incidents or the Indonesian maid's practice.) Susi, the maid, at first refuse to acknowledge the question. After much persuasion and threat to deport her back, she relent and took out everything in her purse. Everything seems normal....... except for a black cloth tied with a gold thread. In that cloth, we found - a fingernail, 4 strands of hair which feels like tungsten, a pin and dried garlic.

(to keep the story short and easier to read..... this is not a novel, you know!!)

According to her, some of her maid-friends gave it to her before they went back home to Indonesia. Those items apparently, will make the house-owner succumb to her and let her be the 'boss'. She will be seen as the one with authority and no one will ill-treat her. When asked why did she wanna do that? She claimed that she heard about employers who ill-treat maids in Singapore.

Susi was reported to the agent and she was sent back the next day.

The good thing is that.... my aunt's family was only 'hypnotized' not to ill-treat the maid. There were stories shared with me where, a maid used her soiled pad to seduce the man-of-the-house. Hence, took over control of the family and their money. I think that's more serious. In fact, there are friends who shared stories not about Indonesian maids, but also, Pinoy and Sri Lankan maids. Each with their fare share and ways of 'magic tricks'. One story I heard about a Pinoy maid was, she purposely sleep in nighties, without any undergarments and open her room door. So that her boss, a 40-yr old lawyer, could get a glimpse of 'her'. She was hoping to seduce him, get into a relationship and live happily ever-after. Much later on, she found out her lawyer-boss was GAY. Damn!!

This is not Susi.... nor the Pinoy maid.
This is Victor (by day), - Victoria (by night)
