It was just announced moments ago that Singapore beat Moscow to be host of the inaugaral Youth Olympics in 2010. Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What the f*ck so happy for....??!!

So, we are suppose to gain in all economical aspects, so we'll be reocgnised on the global stage, so, we'll be seen as not a 3rd-world-country anymore......... so?? We won majority of the votes becoz, we're financially stable, IT hub, politically stable, and most importantly, Singapore is fast being recognized as a capable organizer of major international events. The question is..... where does people like you and me stand?

Be reminded that there will be more jobs created, living standards will be higher, intellectual capabilities will be improved, especially with the coming of the IRs, F1 racers, and many more international events. Will all these make us better human beings....?? Lets list down the advantages of winning the bid for the Youth Olympics.......

Advantages

1. Expect total revenue to increase to SGD$30 billion
2. World recognition as the organiser of the first ever Youth Olympics

3. Tourism will increase by 25%

4. Employment rate may go down as low as 0.8%

5. Exposure for young sportsmen/women

6. Bigger grant for the governing sports bodies

7. More sports facilities to build Singapore into a sporting nation
8. More taxis to hit the roads to cater for the high volume of tourist

9. Streets will be decorated and look like Disneyland

10.Personnel from Ministry of Home Affairs will be VERY visible on the streets to safeguard peacefulness of the Youth Olympics..........

Questions

1. With SGD$30 billion revenue, are we exempted from paying tax for 2 years?
2. Does "WORLD RECOGNITION" means letting the world know that we are not part of China?
3. If tourism increase, does that mean we'll see increase in vice?

4. More jobs created but will Singaporeans take the jobs of the foreign S-Pass holders?
5. Exposure for athletes means telling the world we suck at sports, and buy athletes from China?

6. Bigger grant means the sports executives get to travel on First Class, while athletes on Economy class?

7. More sports facilities means we have to pay to exercise or enjoy games?
8. More taxis on the road touting and only take "BOOKING" calls?

9. Streets will be decorated like Disneyland, are we are the "CARTOONS"?

10.More police on the streets, but will they stop people from asking for RnB and Hip Hop music??

The main event will be in 2 and a half years more, but we're already starting to get things in order. 13 out of the 24 venues are ready, while 1 is under construction. A second athletes village is being planned as contingency plan. Out of all these, will we really benefit from all the hoo-haa......?? Will it help in our everyday lives? Will the residents in old folk's home get a better life? Will Singaporeans at last , learn that House music is NOT Techno, and Techno is not actually dance music? Will there be lesser traffic jams or more road closure to make way for athletes travelling convinience? Will I get a rebate on my road tax? ERP...?? err...... nevermind la...... I give up.

Soon, we'll have casinos, Universal Studios themed park, F1 racers, the Youth Olympics, Pacha club, and God knows what else........ are we reaching for the sky or the stars? Didn't they learn in school that the higher you climb, the harder the fall? "Dare to dream", they say......? What happens when nightmares turn to reality....??
